THE WHITE CAUCASIAN SHEPHERD
The Caucasian Shepherd Dog is one of the oldest guardian breeds in the world, developed over centuries in the mountainous Caucasus region, including Armenia and Georgia.
These powerful dogs were bred to protect livestock, homes and families from wolves, predators and intruders in some of the harshest environments imaginable. Unlike many modern breeds created mainly for appearance, the Caucasian Shepherd was shaped by survival, working ability and natural guardian instinct.
Historically, darker coat colours were often preferred in traditional working environments because they blended more naturally into mountain terrain during night guarding. For this reason, true white bloodlines became less common over time, making White Caucasian Shepherds rare today.
Despite their rarity, white Caucasian Shepherds are fully authentic representatives of the breed and are officially recognised by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) under Standard No. 328.

ARMENIAN BLOODLINES
At SEVEGUARD BG, our dogs descend from carefully selected Armenian bloodlines known for their balanced temperament, stable nerve and strong guardian instinct.
While Caucasian Shepherds are naturally powerful protectors, Armenian-type dogs are especially valued for:
calm and thoughtful behaviour
high tolerance threshold
stable temperament
strong family attachment
self-control and confidence
Rather than reacting impulsively, these dogs are known for observing situations carefully before acting. This balance between protection and stability is one of the qualities that makes Armenian bloodlines highly respected among experienced breeders.
TEMPERAMENT
The White Caucasian Shepherd is not simply a guard dog — it is an intelligent and independent guardian breed with a strong sense of responsibility toward its territory and family.
A properly bred Caucasian Shepherd should be:
-calm and mentally stable
-confident without unnecessary aggression
-observant rather than reactive
-loyal and deeply protective
These dogs do not work like obedience-driven breeds. They think independently, assess situations naturally and react only when truly necessary.
Their calm confidence and stable presence are among the most valued characteristics of the breed.
FAMILY & CHILDREN
When properly raised and socialised, White Caucasian Shepherds can develop exceptionally deep bonds with their families.
Carefully selected Armenian bloodlines are often appreciated for their calm temperament and high tolerance threshold, qualities that may make them more suitable for experienced families with children compared to more reactive guardian types.
Within their family environment, they are often:
-patient
-emotionally stable
-naturally protective
-gentle with children
-highly loyal to their people
However, due to their size, strength and guardian instinct, responsible ownership and proper socialisation remain essential.
RARE BUT AUTHENTIC
One of the most common misconceptions is that White Caucasian Shepherds are not authentic representatives of the breed.
In reality, the white colour has existed naturally within the breed for generations and is fully accepted within the official FCI standard.
Their rarity is not due to crossbreeding or lack of authenticity, but largely because traditional working breeders historically preserved darker dogs more often for practical night guarding purposes.
Today, true White Caucasian Shepherd bloodlines remain rare and highly valued for their impressive appearance, stable temperament and strong guardian qualities.
