Part 1 – Where It All Began...

What if I told you that the history of the Caucasian Shepherd Dog did not begin in a kennel?

Not in a show ring.

Not with the first breed standard.

It began high in the Caucasus Mountains.

Where, for centuries, nature and man together decided which dog was worthy of passing on its bloodline.

Beside every shepherd walked a large guardian dog.

No one called it a champion.

No one measured the size of its head.

No one counted its teeth.

Every evening, there was only one question:

Could this dog protect the flock?

If the answer was yes, that dog was allowed to leave offspring.

Sometimes it was dark.

Sometimes spotted.

Sometimes grey.

And sometimes a white puppy was born.

In those days, coat colour was never the most important thing.

What truly mattered was intelligence.

Courage.

Independence.

Loyalty.

And the ability to make the right decision without waiting for a human command.

This is where I would like to share a thought that Tatiana Polozhentseva once shared with me.

The Caucasian Shepherd Dog was never a champion of dog shows.

It was a champion of life.

It had no medals.

No titles.

No beautiful descriptions in exhibition catalogues.

But for its shepherd, it was the most faithful protector, the strongest companion and the best dog in the world.

There were no trophies in the mountains.

The greatest reward was not a cup or a ribbon.

The greatest reward was to earn the shepherd's trust, to stand beside him through every storm, and to spend a lifetime protecting both him and his flock.

That was the highest honour a Caucasian Shepherd Dog could ever receive.
